Chief's Message

Officers of CCI,

Many of you have been kind enough to send me welcoming congratulations on being officially recognised by the Lord Lyon as Chief of the name of Cunninghame. Actually this matter will not be completely ratified until the 23rd January 2014. In one sense it would have been better to have kept the
matter under wraps until then.
I made a promise to those who were at the dinner in Glasgow some three years ago that I would formalise my position as Head of the Family if you so wished. With your encouragement I started making the necessary arrangements to accomplish this. After a few months of preparation I was confident
that the matter would be settled in a further two or three months. However a Respondent appeared and both my lawyers and the Lyon's office had to consider the matter much more rigorously. The matter then dragged on for over two and a half years, took a great deal of my time and I might add,
money. Although I never doubted the outcome, it has been an irksome delay for all of us. For this I apologise, but there was nothing I could do to speed things up. On the 23rd January we will have finality and I greatly hope you will be pleased at that.
In the Western World life has been pretty tough over the last few years, but the economic outlook both in the United States and in Britain seems to be gradually improving. Let us hope that 2014 will be a good and happy year for all of us and for Clan Cunningham International.
I wish you a successful and rewarding New Year. May God bless you all
John Cuninghame"

The Scottish North American Leadership Conference

In honour of Canada’s 150th year of Confederation ,
"The Scottish North American Leadership Conference", (SNALC) was held for the first time in Canada at the University of Guelph, August 10-11, 2017. We are pleased to advise that Clan Cunningham was represented at the conference by our Regional Director of Canada & Ontario Province, Nancy Cunningham.
Various Scottish Organizations from throughout  North America and Scotland (Sons of Scotland, Visit Scotland, CASSOC, COCAA and more) attended the event along with 50 plus delegates from various Clan representatives and societies.

The key themes of the conference were:
Challenges facing Scottish societies, organizations and clans to grow membership and maintain a vibrant interest in Scottish heritage. The need for a strategy to reach out and perk the interest and commitment of Youth and future generations in Scottish History and personal heritage.
These issues are common amongst all groups and collectively we all need to work together to identify and define strategies that will positively grow and secure the future of the wonderful Scottish heritage that defines us all.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Edinburgh Tattoo 2017

CCI member Kendra Brophy, daughter of Paul Brophy & Nancy Cunningham, is an accomplished Scottish dancer and is performing in this year’s Royal Edinburgh Tattoo in Scotland. A tattoo is typically defined as a military performance of music or display of armed forces in general. At one time there were many tattoos associated with the games in America but the cost of these events has now curtailed the number now associated with games. Canada's Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is the largest annual indoor tattoo, each year featuring over 2000 performers from around the world.

Introducing the Clan Cunningham International Educational Scholarship Fund

CCI is pleased to announce the establishment of its first Educational Scholarship Fund.  In 2015, the CCI Governing Council gave its approval to the concept of a scholarship fund to grant financial awards to CCI members to further their education in studies pertaining to Scotland and/or Clan Cunningham, in such areas as, but not limited to: history, culture, music, dance, genealogy, or to undertake any other viable project that would promote Scottish culture and/or Clan Cunningham.
To make reasonable amounts for awards, the Committee will wait until at least $500 has been raised and placed in its account before soliciting applications and establishing an application deadline. If fund raising starts now, we hope this amount and even more can be raised by January 1, 2018, so that the first scholarship awards will be able to be granted in late April 2018.  Members will be informed when the funds raised will allow these dates to be finalized and the actual application process can be started for 2018. The Committee will review the applications, select winners and determine the amount of the awards.
Please go to the "Documents" page for complete details and Application form, etc.
